It's All About You Interview With That Mummy Smile
Laura Rutherford aka That Mummy Smile has always enjoyed being creative from being a student at Syliva Young Theatre School to a career in fashion. Laura is now a devoted mum to her two boys, enjoys blogging and is a talented painter. You'll find Laura's personalised wreath art watercolour paintings alongside her blog on her website laurarutherford.com. From seeing Laura on Instagram she seemed to be friends with everyone and upon meeting her myself I could see why, she greeted me with her huge beautiful smile and started chatting straight away. So what makes Laura smile?
My favourite out OUT look:
Sexy blouse, leather look trousers, teamed with high heels and a bright Mac lippy!
My favourite in IN look:
PYJAMAS all the way! I've never owned a pair of tracksuit bottoms. Even when I wore a hoody out of the house once, one of my sisters was in shock that I even owned one! From the minute we're in for the night (usually after the kids dinner), the bra comes off and the pj's come on!
Knackered mama style tip:
Lipstick. It's the only thing that makes me feel alive and normal. If you see me at the school gates with a bright lippy, you'll know I'm totally knackered ;)
Palm print or florals?
Florals. I love a palm print but florals win hands down every time whether it be fashion or interiors. I'm drawn to them!
Flamingos or pineapples?
Pineapples. Specifically gold Pinapples!
Parenting rule you’ve abandoned:
By default (and certainly not by choice) 'no ball games in the house'. Raising two boys in a flat in central London without a garden is HARD WORK. No matter how many times I stipulate this rule and shout until the veins pop out of my head, there will inevitably be a ball flying around at some point. Parent fail at its finest.
Last time you had a full night's sleep (over 7 hours):
Is this a trick question?!
The first thing you do once the kids hit the sack:
Pour a glass of red wine (unless I'm already on my second which could be likely!)
If motherhood were a cocktail it would be called:
"Running on empty"
Has a hangover since having a child ever been worth it?
Yes. I can't believe I just said that but yes. Any opportunity to go out sans kids, down a few drinks in quick succession, dance the night away, imagine I'm 21 again, vomit at 11pm, is a good night. The hangover is a killer. But boy it's worth it.
Favourite thing your kid/s says:
"Cuggle" aka "cuddle". Love it.
24hrs without the kid/s, what’s your plan?
I should say sleep! BUT: lunch out, dinner out, drinks out, lie in, brunch out, lunch out...repeat
Essential item for motherhood survival:
Sanity... oh I mean bribery. Ok item....errrrm chocolate obvs.
Would you put on make up to go and buy make-up wipes?
When I did the school run without make up once, a couple of kids said I looked 'weird'. I wear make up every day. So yes!
Most embarrassing motherhood moment:
When is being a mother not embarrassing for your 7yr old?!
Mama super hero power you would choose:
MUTE. All day, every day.
What do you wish you’d been told about motherhood beforehand?
That I would never have a wee without a child either sitting on my lap or watching me!
Three words to describe yourself:
Kind, Creative, Friend
Exciting upcoming plans:
Life
Why do Mama’s Rule?
Because we can multitask the shit out of life and ROCK IT.
